PBS is the better biobased plastic
PBS is a biobased plastic that excels in some of the most important characteristics of a plastic in certain niches, like the oxygen barrier for the food industry and the elongation at break for the plastic bags industry.
We use biobased Succinic Acid and 1,4 Butanediol to produce a polymer with the precise molecular weight for the needs of our clients.
PBS can be used as an additive to improve current plastics performance, or to reduce the carbon footprint of the products. It is a very versatile plastic that can be used in a wide variety of applications, like:
Replacing single-use plastics, including packaging and cutlery
Clothing and textiles with NO micro-plastic shedding
Medical tools and products, including sutures, grafts, and other equipment, and
Food contact applications.
PBS breaks down naturally in the environment without leaving behind harmful microplastics or toxic residue.
Ideally, PBS products will be composted, but if they end up in a landfill or a waterway (as most products do, unfortunately), they will break down safely with no impact on the natural environment.
PBS breaks down in all natural land and sea environments. It generally breaks down within a year, depending on the thickness of the material, as well as environmental factors, such as temperature, humidity, pH, nutrient availability, and the presence of pollutants. PBS breaks down into smaller fragments until microorganisms like bacteria, fungi, or algae are able to use it as a source of carbon and energy. These microorganisms produce enzymes that can further break down the PBS fragments into carbon dioxide, water, and other simple compounds that the natural environment can assimilate.
